President Emmerson Mnangagwa issued a stern warning on Wednesday, June 26, at the 377th Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Politburo in Harare, cautioning that law enforcement agents are prepared to take decisive action against “unruly elements” collaborating with hostile foreign powers to disrupt peace and security in Zimbabwe. This warning comes ahead of the highly anticipated 44th SADC Heads of State and Government Summit, set to take place in the country.
Mnangagwa emphasized that the government will not tolerate any form of unrest or mischief, stating, “I am fully aware that certain unruly elements, in collaboration with our detractors, have activated their perennial tendencies of seeking to disturb our security, peace, and prevailing tranquil environment.” He continued, “They must be warned that my Government will not brook any form of mischief, under whatever pretext. The law will take its course without fear or favour.”

This warning is timely, as it follows the recent arrest of 79 individuals linked to the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), including former party senator Jameson Timba. They were taken into custody on Sunday, June 16, at Timba’s residence in Harare, where they had gathered to commemorate the Day of the African Child. Prosecutors allege that the gathering was, in fact, an unlawful demonstration aimed at promoting violence, breaches of peace, bigotry, and disorderly conduct.
The CCC activists’ bail application has been met with multiple delays, with the Harare Magistrates’ Court initially postponing its ruling until Tuesday, June 25, and then further rescheduling the decision for Thursday.
This series of events has heightened tensions in the country, and Mnangagwa’s warning serves as a clear message that the government will not hesitate to maintain order and ensure the safety of its citizens.
The President’s warning signals a zero-tolerance approach to any form of unrest or disruption ahead of the SADC Summit. With the eyes of the region focused on Zimbabwe, the government is determined to maintain peace and security.
