Yobe State Ministry of Health and Human Services in conjunction with the State Primary Health care Board (SPHCB), National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and other development partners is set to launch Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPVV) campaign against dangerous killer diseases and cervical cancer.
A statement signed by the Head of Department, Information, Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Ali Musa Yawale, in Damaturu read that the five-day campaign will aim at reaching out to children across the state aged between 9 and 14 years.
By the foregoing statement, it can be evidently seen that each and every child will be reached at centres in primary, junior and senior secondary schools and various health care units in the state.
Yawale said the HPVV campaign will launch in Government Girls College Damaturu. He further said that the campaign will be incorporated in routine immunisation targeting the female child.
He revealed that figures of incidence rate showed that in 2020, Nigeria registered 12, 000 new cases of HPV that lead to some forms of cancers, including cervical cancer out of which 8, 000 died from the illness.
The statement then called on parents, guardians and caregivers to be aware of the vaccines and make sure that their wards are protected against the deadly disease.
