Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has debunked rumours circulating on social media that her husband, Olu Jacobs, has passed away.
This is the second time rumours of his death have surfaced, but Silva has assured fans that Jacobs is alive and doing well.
Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, also known as Olu Jacobs, is a veteran Nigerian actor and film executive. He has been in numerous British television shows and worldwide films. Many consider him to be one of the best and most well-known African actors of his time.
Jacobs has established himself in Nigeria’s film business, known as Nollywood. With over 40 years of performing experience, he is regarded as a bridge between the old and new generations of actors. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England and has worked with several repertoire theatres in the United Kingdom, as well as starring in some foreign films.
In 2007, Jacobs received the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Jacobs has established himself as a godfather in Nollywood, paving the way for many aspiring actors and actresses in the profession.
His passion for performing was sparked by the late great filmmaker Hubert Ogunde’s yearly musical celebration at the Colonial Hotel in Kano; he later moved to England to study acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He has been characterised as ‘one of Nollywood’s finest actors, best role interpreter, and best word manipulator.
Olu Jacobs received the prestigious Industry Merit Award for great performances in acting at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
