Tensions erupt during Shabana’s stunning 4-3 victory over AFC Leopards in Homabay.
There was a high level of tension as mayhem broke out during Shabana’s famous 2-1 victory over AFC Leopards on Saturday afternoon.
A tense moment arose during Shabana’s exciting 4-3 victory over AFC Leopards on Saturday at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay. As the two sides clashed, a group of spectators attempted to disrupt the game, emphasising the high stakes and powerful emotions involved.
Shabana, who is fighting to avoid relegation, strengthened their survival chances with this critical win. Despite twice losing the lead, the team remained resilient and determined.
The match was a rollercoaster, with Shabana gaining the lead in the 14th minute thanks to Prince Ayieko. However, AFC Leopards promptly answered with two goals from Arthur Gitego in the 20th and 24th minutes, which silenced the home crowd.
The match became hectic midway through the second half. An AFC Leopards fan stormed onto the ground, incensed by the refereeing standards, after Brian Michira’s fourth goal for Shabana. Stewards had to intervene violently to remove him, generating a scene on the sidelines as the game resumed.
Another fan attempted to disrupt the game but was similarly apprehended by the stewards. Fortunately, law enforcement was able to restore order before the situation progressed further.
Shabana was undeterred by the disruptions. Alvin Ochieng equalised in the 44th minute, which made the team draw 2-2 at halftime.
Only ten minutes after the restart, Samuel Maiko put Shabana ahead again. Musa Oundo of AFC Leopards restored parity in the 58th minute, making the score 3-3. However, Brian Michira’s goal in the 79th minute clinched Shabana’s victory.
This crucial victory catapulted Shabana to 15th position with 32 points, edging Sofapaka on goal differential. The game was important not only for the points but also for the spirit of the team and its fans.
Another tense moment occurred at the Muhoroni Sports Complex during FC Talanta’s 1-0 win over Muhoroni Youth. The hosts attempted to prevent the FC Talanta media team from shooting the game, adding to the day’s drama in Kenyan football.
