Nigeria Super Eagles coach Findi George is set to begin his major match today as the newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles squad. The Super Eagles will host South Africa in the first leg of the 2026 World Cup qualifying series match on Friday, June 7, 2024, in Uyo at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The match, which is expected to start at 8 p. m. Nigerian time is poignant for the Super Eagles, for the team would wish to record a victory after being confined to two embarrassing draws against Zimbabwe and Lesotho in their previous two group fixtures.
The team is still positioned in third place in Group C, below Rwanda and South Africa’s position in the upper second place.
Currently, the ‘Eagles’ remain absent from the World Cup, and to restore the Nigerian team to the same heights, a relatively young coach, Finidi George, who started in April 2024, will need time. Victory in Group E’s match against South Africa makes it possible for the Super Eagles to remain enthusiastic in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
