South African singer and songwriter Rethabile Khumalo is in a critical condition in the hospital after being allegedly poisoned by a close friend. This was revealed by her mother, Winnie Khumalo.
On Thursday, June 27, Winnie Khumalo issued a statement to Rethabile’s fans about her condition. She made a heartfelt plea to South Africans to pray for her daughter’s recovery.
“It has been six days since she was admitted to the hospital,” Winnie shared.
“She felt it was necessary to update her supporters with this distressing news.
“Rethabile has undergone three operations so far, and we are hoping for her recovery. But at the moment, things are not looking good. She has been fluctuating in her condition,” she explained.
Winnie, who is also a musician, expressed her distress to the Daily Sun. “I am not doing well at the moment. We are praying that she gets better.
“She’s still in the hospital as we speak. We are hopeful that she’ll recover soon,” she said.
Rethabile’s family is calling on Mzansi to keep her in their prayers in hopes of a speedy recovery.

The 27-year-old singer has faced significant challenges in recent years, including surviving a car accident in 2020 and battling depression and a previous suicide attempt in 2022.
Rethabile’s mother promised to provide an update on her condition later in the day.
Rethabile Khumalo is known for her hit song “Umlilo,” which topped the charts in 2020. Her music career has been marked by success and accolades, but she has also been open about her personal struggles.
