Kataleya and Kandle, a popular musical duo, have been summoned by the police in Kampala, Uganda, over alleged libel accusations.
The summons follows defamatory statements the duo made against their former management, Theron Music Company Limited.
According to the summons, the police are investigating a case of libel and have invited the duo to report to the regional CID Office Kampala Metropolitan East at Jinja Road for an interview and statement recording. The interview is scheduled to take place on July 4, 2024, at 0900 hours.
The duo has been accused of making defamatory statements against Theron Music Company Limited, their former management company. The summons comes after the company reported the matter to the police, alleging that the duo’s statements had damaged their reputation.
In a statement to their fans, Kataleya and Kandle revealed that they had been receiving threatening calls and texts from unknown individuals, some claiming to be music promoters. The duo reported that these individuals made unlawful threats and attempted to track them using the military’s Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and the police’s Flying Squad.
The artistes expressed concern over the manner in which the situation has been handled, stating that they should have received formal police summons before being subjected to intimidation and threats. They have assured their cooperation with the police and intend to provide a statement regarding the allegations.
They accepted their former management decision to pursue legal action and expressed their willingness to cooperate with the police.
“We assure our cooperation and will present ourselves to the legitimate police authorities to truthfully provide a statement regarding the malicious allegations against us by our accusers in a futile bid to intimidate us and stifle our legitimate music business and livelihood,” the statement read.

Moreover, Kataleya and Kandle recently made a comeback after a six-month hiatus, which was speculated to be due to a dispute with their former record label, Theron Music Records. The duo has since rebranded as “K & K Music” and released a new song titled ‘Tompa,’ featuring Vinka.
Speculation claims that their hiatus was due to a conflict with their former record label, Theron Music Records, for unknown reasons.
