The Director-General of Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA), has disclosed that the agency has developed four natural medicines in the correct dosage forms in line with the advancement of natural medicine use in the country.
The Director-General of NNMDA, Prof. Martins Emeje, stated this in Abuja and noted that out of activities that have been done in the past one year, four medications were affected.
He said the agency transformed natural foods and herbs of Nigeria origin into drugs for the treatment of sickle cell, diabetes and slow ageing process. It was also revealed that the organic products were unveiled on International Women’s Day, which took place on the 8th of March.
He said the medicines are Aberecin for managing diabetes mellitus, while there is Namdasan for the management of Sickle cell anaemia, which is a major problem in the black population of the world; it is estimated to home well over four million people in Nigeria alone.

“We have that product containing at least eight different plants indigenous to Nigeria”, he explained.
He also noted that Nanobere, the first herbal nano-product in Africa, was another research carried out by the agency and used for the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections.
He continued that, Namdamune which is an anti-ageing factor, was derived out of natural plants and herbs that do revitalization and is an immune booster and is also the key factor regarding ageing factor.
“We got all these done in one year, and it is not just about health, the significance of this is that Nigeria can develop its own products locally and manufacture locally, and that is medicine security.” He stated.
“It means that the life of your people is in the hands of your people because the greatest disservice you can do to yourself is to have your life in the hands of another person.”
He also stated that through its production, the herbal medicines led to job and wealth creation.
