The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has procured health insurance for all street sweepers in the state to ensure they are healthy enough in carrying out their work.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, disclosed this yesterday in Ilorin while interacting with the sweepers.
Alabi stated that the sweepers will be registered by the officials of the state health insurance where the commissioner for youth development, Malam Shehu Ndanusa was present to represent him.
He also stated they would be provided with registration/enrolment cards to be equivalent to the state-owned hospitals.
According to him, it is a fact that most of the sweepers are indigenes, and therefore have the chance to get the Health insurance for free. All that is required of them is to register.

“This is to encourage them to perform well in their work and make them know that their health is paramount to us,” the deputy governor explained.
The state’s Commissioner for Environment, Hajiya Nafisat Buge while speaking to newsmen said it was part of the event to recognize workers who have substantially contributed to making the city clean.
According to him, this is achieved through early disbursement of the monthly grant utilized in the functioning of sanitation, repair of trucks, and the settling of these categories of employees.
The Commissioner, who was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Ayinla noted that “An occasion like this will help these workers to pour out their mind on some challenges or hazards of keeping the state clean and the way forward.”
