The Kwara State government aims to vaccinate 311,000 girls between the ages 9-14 against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
Yesterday, Dr Michael Oguntoye, a director in the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, announced that the vaccination would begin on May 27 and last for five days.
He was a key speaker at a media engagement organised by John Snow Incorporated (JSI), with the Bill and Melinda Foundation, and, HPV Vaccine Acceleration Programme Partners Initiative (HAPPI) Consortium.
He stated that the five-day campaign which is to be inaugurated by the governor’s wife, Dr Olufolake AbdulRazaq, would be aimed at school, as well as, out-of-school girls.
“The HPV vaccine will be available across all primary health care facilities. The vaccine is safe, efficacious, and it is not an attempt to reduce the population or family planning strategy,” he said.
