Angola’s president, Joao Lourenco has raised the minimum monthly net salary for civil servants to [one hundred thousand] 100,000 kwanzas, which is equivalent to [one hundred and twenty United States dollars] 120.
According to Angola’s director of labour, Antonio Estote, the president’s decree made on April 19 for the minimum wage increment will become effective starting on June 1, 2024.
According to Estote, the minimum net salary for civil servants was raised by [thirty thousand] 30,000 kwanzas, which is equivalent to ($36), following President Lorenco’s directive.
The director of labour noted that the net salary for senior military personnel and senior medical staff will be raised to one million, eight hundred thousand kwanzas, (1,800,000 kz) equivalent to ($2,150).
Also, a cleaner employed by the government will be paid a net salary of one hundred thousand kwanzas (100,000 kz), equivalent to ($120) from the previous salary of sixty-nine thousand kwanzas (69,000 kz), equivalent to ($82).
A university professor who receives a net salary of six hundred and sixty-nine thousand kwanzas (669,000 Kz), equivalent to ($800), will get a minimum monthly net salary of one million Kwanzas (1,000,000 Kz), which is equivalent to ($1,195) from June 1, 2024.
Following the review of public servant salaries, teachers and researchers are also among those who will get a pay raise.
