Recently, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has declared the launch of the second phase of the NINJA Accelerator, aimed at the strategic partnership and open collaboration between South African startups and Japanese firms.
The JICA NINJA Accelerator in South Africa – Open Innovation Edition is calling for applications for startups to demonstrate the commercial compatibility of NEC XON which is a 60:40 joint venture of NEC Corporation, an international company from Japan.
Specifically, the goal of JICA is on examining partnerships between local startups and Japanese firms, as well as on supporting local startup ecosystems with that of relevant innovations from the private sector.

“The idea is to improve startups’ probability of meeting a new strategic partner or investor, or an enterprise client in NEC and, at the same time, uncover possibilities of exit options in case of the best fit. The outcomes could also be of significant value for VCs in the competition if the selected startup turns out to be its portfolio,” noted Kohei Muto, CEO of Double Feather Partners, the Japan-based Africa-focused VC & consulting firm.
All the startups interested can apply before July 28.
