Haiti’s newly appointed Prime Minister Garry Conille was hospitalized in Port-au-Prince on Saturday, mere days after his arrival in the country, according to the government.
The reason for his hospitalization is currently unknown; however, his condition is reported as stable.
The office of the prime minister said in a statement that Conille was feeling slightly unwell “following a week of intense activities.”
Since his arrival, Prime Minister Conille has been engaging in a series of meetings with high-ranking officials and touring various areas of Port-au-Prince, even joining a police patrol in an armored vehicle alongside officers from Haiti’s National Police, demonstrating his commitment to understanding the country’s security situation firsthand.
He also conducted a tour of Haiti’s primary international airport, which had recently resumed operations following a nearly three-month closure due to gang violence and instability in the region.

A source close to the Prime Minister, who wished to remain anonymous due to lack of authorization to speak to the press, revealed to AP that they were with Conille when they noticed him struggling to breathe, attributing his distress to his asthma condition, for which he occasionally uses an inhaler.
Conille was named prime minister on May 28, following a prolonged selection process.
He has prior experience as Haiti’s prime minister, having held the position from October 2011 to May 2012 during the presidency of Michel Martelly, before his recent reappointment to the role.
