Renowned Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, also known as Millennium Chef Smith, has been arrested and detained at the La Police Station for allegedly falsifying a Guinness World Record certificate for marathon cooking.
Smith had claimed to have set a new world record by cooking non-stop for 820 hours and 25 minutes, from February 1 to March 6, 2024. However, Guinness World Records confirmed that the certificate was invalid and that Smith does not hold the title.
According to reports, Smith had hosted a press conference at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, claiming to be the new record holder, and had also posted about his achievement on social media. However, a sponsor who donated approximately 350,000 cedis to support the cook-a-thon discovered the fraud, leading to Smith’s arrest.
The current record holder for marathon cooking is Alan Fisher from Ireland, who achieved a record time of 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023.
According to Guinness World Records, he surpassed Hilda Baci, the Nigerian chef, in terms of the world’s longest cooking marathon record.

Fisher, who is from Ireland, managed to break not one but two cooking-related GWR titles during his incredible achievement. First, he won the title of longest cooking marathon (individual) with an impressive time of 119 hours and 57 minutes.
Guinness World Records follows tight criteria and verification methods to verify the legitimacy of record attempts.
