Egyptian footballer Ahmed Refaat has died at the age of 31 from a heart attack, months after he collapsed on the field during a match.
Refaat’s health crisis occurred on March 11 during a league match against Ittihad of Alexandria. He was hospitalised in Alexandria and later transferred to Cairo for further treatment. Although he was discharged on April 11, he continued receiving treatment and using a pacemaker.
The cause of Refaat’s death has not been officially disclosed, but it is believed to be related to the heart complications he suffered earlier this year. His final public appearance was on MBC Masr 2 on June 23.
Refaat’s football career included stints with Zamalek, Enppi, and Masry before joining Future FC in October 2021. He scored nine goals in 29 appearances last season and made his debut with Egypt’s senior national football team in 2021, earning five caps.
