City Hall has agreed to cover hospital expenses for injured protestors admitted in county re-run hospitals and morgue expenses for twelve bodies.
Health Executive Committee Member Susan Silantoi made the undertaking as human rights groups raised the possibility of even more unreported deaths after the disruptive incursion into Parliament during the anti-Finance Bill (2024) protest on Tuesday.
Silantoi said that City Hall had confirmed six bodies at City Mortuary and a similar number at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.
“The 12 were received yesterday by the respective mortuary attendants in the respective facilities,” she said.
The County Executive also affirmed that at least 51 people had to be treated at the county’s hospitals and discharged.
But, she said, three were still being isolated at Mbagathi Hospital and seven at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

“Some who were received had soft tissue injuries and were treated and released; however, the ten (10), three (3) at Mbagathi and seven (7) at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, are responding positively to treatment,” Silantoi said.
Nairobi County with other stakeholders had prepared two camps at Holy Family Basilica and Jamia Mall where people with minor injuries were treated.
The more severe ones and those requiring urgent attention were taken to different hospitals in the county.
The County deployed five ambulances and twelve medics who assisted personnel from other organizations to ensure that the injured received timely medical attention.
