The Cholera epidemic has claimed 15 lives in Lagos State and 350 suspected cases have been recorded in the state.
The Lagos Ministry of Health reported that the state currently has 17 confirmed cholera cases.
This was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, while explaining measures put in place to contain the outbreak in Lagos State.
The ministry disclosed in its statement issued on Saturday that 350 suspected cholera cases were registered in 29 wards of different LGAs in Lagos State with 17 confirmed and 15 mortalities recorded so far.
It quoted Abayomi as saying, however, that conditions in the state are improving and that the cases of cholera are declining.

The commissioner disclosed this in a statement, which was signed by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, while revealing that tests conducted in the laboratory have established Cholera subtype O-1 that is linked with severe illness.
“Although this is an increase from the numbers published three days ago, cases are now dramatically subsiding in previously affected LGAs due to our interventions and surveillance efforts. However, we are recording some new cases in previously unaffected areas, signalling the need for residents to adhere strictly to precautionary, personal, and environmental hygiene measures,” said Ogunbanwo.
