China to Attend the 2024 FISU World University Mind Sports Championship in Uganda

The 2024 FISU World University Mind Sports Championship is slated to take place from June 25–30 in Entebbe, Uganda. Chinese participants have confirmed their participation to attend and compete in chess and bridge. 

According to the vice president of the International University Sports Federation, Peninah Aligawesa Kabenge, China was among the very first countries to confirm its participation in this championship. It is reported that Kabenge has praised the strong performance China put up in mind sports—it won gold at the 2020 FISU World University Championship Mind Sports.

The FISU World University Championship is an international, multi-sport event that attracts student-athletes from all over the world who gather to compete in the various sports and games. 

Peninah Aligawesa Kabenge told Xinhua on Saturday that China was among the first nations to indicate their readiness to attend the championship.

“China is a big nation in the Mind Sports and they have already confirmed participation. Remember they won gold at the 2020 FISU World University Championship Mind Sports,” added Kabenge.

She noted that more than 20 countries and regions have confirmed participation in the tournament, which includes chess and bridge.

“We are preparing well because our target is to organise a very successful 2024 FISU World University Mind Sports Championship. Our teams are also preparing well because being hosts we believe home advantage should also play a role in motivating our players more,” explained Kabenge.

In addition, more than 20 countries and regions have signed up, including Poland, France, Turkey, Angola, the United States, Slovakia, and Kenya.

This championship is only open to university students aged 25 or below.

The host country is putting things right to have a successful event, and Kabenge says he believes in Uganda’s capacity to successfully hold this championship. The Ugandan team is also in preparation to capitalise on the home advantage as a motivating push for the players.

The 2024 FISU World University Mind Sports Championship will be a great event as it will bring together some of the world’s finest young minds from chess and bridge.
