Airtel Africa’s wholesale subsidiary Airtel Telesonic has stated the successful commencement of operations of the 2Africa submarine system to boost connectivity in the continent.
The first phase connects Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa, opening up the next phase of improved and efficient broadband internet.
The 2Africa cable project, one of the biggest subsea cable systems around the world, plans to link Africa, Europe, and Asia to enhance digital transition in Africa.
Airtel Telesonic, had early in 2012 enlisted the services of Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to accomplish this feat. ASN, covering a wide range of the optical submarine networks, offered the newest SLTE platform – PSI-SUB which has both modularity and repairability enhanced by its future-proof design.
Speaking on this achievement, the CEO of Airtel Telesonic, PD Sarma said that it is a significant step in the progression of the digital evolution demarcation in Africa.
“This project highlights our commitment to advanced infrastructure and empowering communities in the digital age.”
Speaking on the occasion, Paul Gabla, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer of ASN expressed the company’s pleasure in being with Airtel with their latest SLTE equipment.
“This milestone underscores the power of collaboration and innovation in bringing advanced connectivity solutions to Africa.”
The 2Africa Submarine cable is expected to change the face of African communication and will be in line with Airtel Africa’s vision to continue satisfying the needs of its valued clients through innovative solutions.
