Mandla Ngcongwane, the founder of Black Brain Pictures, has suffered another loss in his production company.
Nthabiseng Mokwena, the head of Wardrobe, passed away after a short illness at the age of 33. This tragedy comes just months after the passing of actress Lebogang Mpyana in November 2023.
Nthabiseng was an integral part of the Black Brain Pictures team and played a crucial role in bringing the company’s stories to life. Mandla N and the management of Black Brain Pictures released a statement expressing their condolences and mourning the loss of Nthabiseng.
“We join the rest of the industry in mourning the recent passing of Nthabiseng Mokwena. She was an integral part of the Black Brain Pictures production team, helping us bring our stories to life as Head of Wardrobe.
“Over the years we have worked with Nthabiseng, she has left an indelible mark through her creativity, charisma, exemplary work ethic, and leadership. Her spirit will live on through the many lives she has touched and her body of work,” he said.
Mandla N is also known for his acting career, starring in the SABC sitcom City Ses’la and its spinoff series Ses’Top La, as well as being a member of the band Gang of Instrumentals.

In 2023, Mandla declared his desire to open a school for talented people.
He envisioned a school called Black Brain Academy at Urban Brew Studios in Ferndale, Johannesburg. His company, Black BrainPictures, has produced shows including DiepCity, Isitha, and Side Dish, among others.
Mandla N is well recognised for playing Themba Khumalo in the SABC sitcom City Ses’la and its spinoff series Ses’Top La, as well as being a member of the band Gang of Instrumentals.
