Ghanaian chef Smith has publicly apologised and broken down in tears for falsifying his Guinness World Record certificate.
The chef, who had earlier proudly announced his achievement and displayed a counterfeit certificate, was exposed as a fraud after Guinness World Records confirmed that the genuine record holder is Alan Fisher from Ireland, who achieved the feat in Japan in 2023.
In an interview with GHOne TV, Chef Smith He humbly begged for forgiveness, acknowledging that his actions had brought shame to the nation.
“I am deeply sorry for my actions,” Chef Smith said, tears streaming down his face. “I was desperate, and I made a mistake. I never meant to bring shame to Ghana or to deceive my fans. I am truly sorry and I promise to work hard to regain the trust of Ghanaians.”
Chef Smith’s assistant, Leticia Martekie Sankah, also publicly apologised for her role in the incident, taking full responsibility for her involvement and expressing regret for unwittingly supporting a fraudulent claim.
Earlier on, it could be reported that Ebenezer Smith, also known as Millennium Chef Smith was arrested and detained at the La Police Station for allegedly falsifying a Guinness World Record certificate for marathon cooking.

Smith had hosted a press conference at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, claiming to be the new record holder, and had also posted about his achievement on social media.
He had claimed to have set a new world record by cooking non-stop for 820 hours and 25 minutes, from February 1 to March 6, 2024.
However, Guinness World Records confirmed that the certificate was invalid and that Smith does not hold the title.
