Mother Care Groups (MCGs), under Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe, are advocating increased support from MHEN in the task of educating mothers to play an important role in vaccine immunization of under-5 children.
The call comes at a time MHEN is conducting monitoring and mentorship refresher training to 31 member MCGs around Lilongwe district on their role to ensure proper and increased immunization to under five children with vaccines.
Nyanda MCG Mercy Raice who was genuinely grateful for the work being done by MHEN said however that there is still more work required the organization to undertake an extended program to provide them with frequent refresher trainings noting that the time which MHEN took to come up with other refresher trainings was long noting that this would help in motivating workers enough to work hard.

“The project is really bearing fruits as mothers around this community they can understand what we are teaching them and the response is so huge, but we ask for more support, MHEN should be engaging us frequently as at some pointing time we have shortfalls in terms of teaching materials and other required resources as a result we leave other important things,” Raice said.
Through health systems enhancement projects such as MEHN, 31 member MCGs are formed by the communities around Lilongwe to support the call for mothers to actively enhance vaccine immunization among the under five children.
HIV prevention through vaccine immunization can only be effective if assisted by a strong health system, and that is why the project aims at consolidating health systems to fully deliver on vaccine immunization for any kind of infection.
The project is being implemented with support from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
