The Super Eagles, Nigeria’s national football team, will soon discover their opponents for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign.
The draw for the 2025 AFCON is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa, and will feature 48 countries vying for a spot in the prestigious tournament.
The draw will be conducted at the SuperSport studio, and the 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group, except for the group containing host nation Morocco, will qualify directly for the finals, which are scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
The qualifying matches will take place during the FIFA windows of September, October, and November this year.
All of Nigeria’s competitors in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification race—Benin Republic, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe are all in Thursday’s draw.
