Minister of Health, Republic of Mozambique, Armindo Tiago has demanded the establishment of an appropriate way of distributing medicines and health care products to ensure proper delivery.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the Coordinating Council of Pharmaceutical Logistics and Medical Supplies on Thursday, Tiago said that to enhance efficiency and availability of medicines in the entire country, it is necessary to establish a single logistics command.
The minister considered the supply chain changes, where certain warehouse functions are shifted towards intermediary and transit warehouses and are more strategically situated, may well offer up substantial benefits that will be summed up by lower overall storage costs, transport expenses, a diminished risk of losing products, coupled with the timely delivery of medicine and health units.

According to Tiago, for him, there is a way to make this first element efficient to manage, and it is applying the scientific concept and principle used in the health care organizations of making decisions evidential rather than presumptive. The second one is to collaborate with all the establishments in the health care and other fields with the aim to realize what its activity presupposes and, in the end, to build up the capacity of an institution.
Tiago also mentions that there is the need to enhance the institution-building role of the Council of Pharmaceutical Logistics and Medical Supplies in terms of having professionally developed human capital.
“It should draw up a human resources development plan so that, in the near future, it can achieve the objectives of efficiency in the management of medicines and medical equipment,” he added.
