Gor Mahia Granted CAF Champions League License as the preliminarily round draw date nears

Kenyan Football League champions Gor Mahia have been granted the license to participate in the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League, marking their return to the prestigious tournament after a one-year absence.

The club announced the news on their social media platforms, expressing their enthusiasm and readiness to compete.

Gor Mahia, along with three other Kenyan clubs :Tusker, KCB, and Kenya Police FC were granted the license by the Football Kenya Federation’s First Instance Body (FIB) after meeting the required club licensing criteria. The licenses enable these clubs to participate in the 2024/25 CAF Inter Club Competitions.

The licensing process was strict, with clubs required to apply through the CAF Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP) by June 13, 2024. The evaluation was based on five criteria pillars: Sporting, Infrastructure, Personnel and Administration, Legal, and Financial.

The FIB emphasised that it would maintain an advisory role towards the clubs for the rest of the season but reserved the right to withdraw licenses if any club refused to comply.

Gor Mahia’s return to the CAF Champions League comes after a challenging hiatus, during which they faced exclusion from last season’s competition despite emerging as league winners due to outstanding debts owed to former foreign players. The club has now cleared these debts and meets all the necessary requirements.

The draw for the CAF Champions League preliminary round is expected soon, and Gor Mahia is eager to make a triumphant return to the competition after a three-year absence.
