The 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season comes to an end today, with 760 matches already played and only one matchday left. Enugu Rangers have secured the top spot and a CAF Champions League ticket, but the remaining continental slots and relegation battles are still up for grabs.
Remo Stars, currently in second place with 62 points, are in a precarious position. A loss to Abia Warriors could see them lose their grip on the second Champions League ticket to Enyimba, who are just two points behind. Enyimba will face Plateau United at home and need a win to keep their hopes alive.
Shooting Stars, with 59 points, are also in contention for a continental ticket. They face relegation-threatened Sporting Lagos at home and could leapfrog both Remo Stars and Enyimba with a win.
Plateau United and Lobi Stars, tied at 58 points, have outside chances of securing a Confederation Cup ticket with wins in their respective matches. Lobi Stars are away to Kano Pillars, who need a result to beat the drop, while Plateau United face a daunting trip to Enyimba.
Meanwhile, the relegation battle is intense, with Kano Pillars, Kwara United, Bayelsa United, Akwa United, and Sporting Lagos fighting to avoid the drop. Doma United, Heartland, and Gombe United have already been relegated to the Nigeria National League.
