The Zimbabwe national football team, the Warriors, have dropped drastically in the FIFA rankings following a poor showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The team is currently rated 129 globally and 38 on the African continent—a massive drop in status.

Defeats in the recent World Cup qualifiers at the hands of Lesotho and South Africa vastly contributed to losing many grounds on the ladder. They lost considerable ground in the continental rankings as they are now placed 38th in Africa.

The huge blow that has been put on the team’s global standing from the previously held ranking down to 129th place has been because of poor performances on the pitch.

In the latest rankings released by FIFA, Morocco has consolidated itself as the top-ranked African nation and 12th in the world. The Atlas Lions continued to prove a powerhouse in African football, showing strength and consistency on the international stage.

Senegal is second and 18th in the world, with Egypt third and 23rd globally, followed by the rest of the top ten: Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Mali, and South Africa.

At the top of the rankings, Argentina remains unbeaten and holds on to their number one position. France and Belgium hold the second and third spots, as the top three remain unchanged.
