Nigerian champion Chidi Okezie earned his spot for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the Edmonton Athletics Invitational in Canada. The outstanding athlete came in first place in the men’s 400m, winning with a personal best of 44.97s, thereby breaking his former record and automatically qualifying him for the next Olympics.
This was, in fact, the first time that he crossed the 45-second barrier. His scintillating run fetched him gold in that event. He defeated American rivals Wil London III and DaeQwan Butler, among others.
It could be recalled that in March, Okezie defied all odds to clinch the top prize during the men’s 400m event at the African Games after completing an absolutely stunning race in the men’s 400m final, storming towards a PersonalĀ Best (PB) of 45.06s.
