The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has disclosed that his government’s drive to refloat the health sector of the state has begun to yield fruitful results.
Otti made this known while speaking to mark his first year in office, where he listed a few of them which included the resuscitation of the State Specialist and Diagnostic Centre among others, located in the state capital, Umuahia.
“Presently, the eye centre at the facility has become a major reference centre in the region providing quality services to people from far and near,” he said.

He recalled that before the end of the last year, the administration renovated the hitherto sorry state of the State University Teaching Hospital, Aba and got its accreditation retrieved after as many years as three it had been suspended for.
“Do not forget that we had earmarked 15 percent of the entire budgetary outlay of the 2024 fiscal year for the development of the health sector.”
He said that affordability and availability of hitherto improved health care facilities is what people get in the numerous primary health facilities across the state.
“In that case, massive rehabilitation is going on in several of the facilities,” the governor, therefore, maintained.
