The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals will be postponed by six months to early 2026. Initially scheduled for June 2025 in Morocco, the tournament conflicted with the expanded 32-team Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025.
The postponement decision aims to avoid scheduling conflicts and alleviate the burden on African players. According to CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba, the original dates would have required players to participate in both the Club World Cup and AFCON consecutively, following a demanding season.

Although the exact dates for the rescheduled AFCON finals are yet to be confirmed, CAF has clarified that the tournament will now occur at the beginning of 2026. This change may impact Morocco’s plans to showcase its tourist industry and prepare for the 2030 World Cup, which it is co-hosting with Portugal and Spain.
