The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence convened a meeting on Monday with National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu and the Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet to assess the status and maintenance of the aircraft in the presidential fleet.
The meeting was convened in response to recent media reports revealing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima had to resort to chartering flights for their respective trips to Saudi Arabia and Kenya, due to the unavailability of suitable aircraft in the presidential fleet.
The meeting which was held behind closed doors with the representative of the NSA, Major General Μ.Μ. Galadima and the Commander, Presidential Air Fleet, AVM Olayinka O.Olusola and other officials.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Satomi Ahmed (APC, Borno) assured that the National Security Adviser and the Commandant had thoroughly briefed them on the situation, and there was no need for concern or alarm.
He stated further, “You know it is a very sensitive national security issue that has to do with our president.”
“And looking at our role in the foreign policy position of Nigeria, this is not something that we will come out into the public to discuss.”
The investigation was initiated following a motion introduced by Rep. Satomi Ahmed, Chairman of the Committee, during last week’s plenary session. The motion was later withdrawn, and the committee was directed to investigate and address the matter as part of its oversight duties, rather than pursuing a full debate on the House floor.
